My grandparent's house was a single-story white house located on Congress Avenue. Although my grandparents were long gone, the home sat vacant and was falling into disrepair.
A manilla envelope came to me, stating that I had inherited the property. I hadn't been there in years, so I went to see about it, and what work would be needed to restore it and put it up for sale.
When I got to the property, I found that the property was overgrown. Behind the house was a detached garage that had a weathered and dying weeping willow tree next to it.
I first went inside the house, and found that it was empty and bare, with peeling wallpaper and the musty odor of moist carpet. The eerie silence unsettled me, and my mind was filled with childhood memories of me playing with cardboard bricks in the hallway.
Suddenly, the silence was broken by a scratch at the back door. I went to investigate the strange sound, and when I opened the back door, I saw a calico cat bolt away.
I chased after it, making it my mission to pet the pussycat. The cat led me behind the garage, where it disappeared into some tall grass behind the trunk of the weeping willow.
When I went behind the tree, I found a small trap door in the ground a few feet from the base of the tree. It was barely large enough to squeeze through, but I was hell-bent on petting that pussy!
Down the hole I went, descending down a ladder in a vertical shaft that ended in a maintenance tunnel. In my younger years, I hadn't remembered seeing this here before. It felt wrong, but I was curious. I wanted to explore.
"Pssst!" I whispered into the dark tunnel, hoping the calico kitty would come to me. Nothing. Silence.
I pulled out my phone and used it to light my way. The tunnel angled downward, deeper under my grandparent's property above. The tunnel ended, and there was a bright red wooden door that was partially open. Perhaps the cat went through it, so I did too.
~~~~~~~~
Next thing I knew, I was now in a dimly-lit empty office space, apart from a few wooden filing cabinets. It smelled like a musty library filled with old books. The wooden trim of the plain beige walls was freshly painted a deep maroon color, and there were arched windows, in the Gothic style, but there were no windows there, only beige walls.
Suddenly, I heard faint voices talking, and my heart about stopped. There was a doorway at the far end of the long room, and there was a bit more light coming from there. I exited the room and found myself in a labyrinth of halls and corridors, all with Gothic style decor, fused with modern offices with white grid tiled ceilings and some florescent lights.
The voices grew louder the further into the strange complex I went. It sounded like a debate was going on, but I couldn't be clear on what it was all about. It didn't make much sense to me.
I could have sworn I heard my name mentioned among the chaotic voices. Were they talking about me? It sure sounded like it.
I entered a larger room, where I found a handful of men standing around tables, dressed in suits. They were cussing an pointing at each other, clearly in an intense debate about something... possibly over me. This made me feel paranoid, and they all stopped talking and stared at me.
"Sorry... I'm lost. I think I'm in the wrong place," I awkwardly said, frantically looking for an exit.
They all stared at me in silence, seemingly waiting for me to leave. Finally, one of the men said, "Can you give us a speech? You need to make your case." as he pointed to a podium with a congressional seal on it.
"Umm... huh?" I had no idea what to say, and politics were of absolutely no interest to me, as was the vibe I was getting from this weird place. Looking more closely at the strangers, I was mortified to realize that they were all pale with elongated fangs. I had found myself in a congress of vampires.
"Let us hear your opinion, and you can be free," said a congresswoman in a smooth, sinister tone.
Everyone's eyes felt like daggers in my soul, as they closely watched my every move. I had to think sharply, with a quick strategic wit so I could save myself. As this was seemingly a political environment, I decided to waste their time with a filibuster. Perhaps I could bore them enough to make them lose interest in me.
I aimlessly talked about the first things that popped into my head. I talked about Gothic architecture, then nature photography, and I went on to discuss the issue of the persecution of polyamorous lifestyles. The audience seemed interested in this, so as soon as they started arguing - again - I changed the subject to my interest in rock collection. I randomly and aimlessly discussed rocks for so long, that my plan worked and they grew bored and moved on to continuing their arguments over petty things.
As the congress of vampires became focused on their pointless arguments, I ducked out of the room, looking for an exit.
I entered another room that was partially partitioned off by a beige shroud curtain. Part of the room had small, private chambers that resembled coffins, standing upright. There were a few men in black suits standing within the partitioned off section of the room, whispering secrets. Wanting to get evidence that the place was real, I snapped a photo with my phone.
The flash was on, which got the attention of everyone in the room. They all glared at me, and they started to slowly step in my direction. Fearing they were going to devour me, I exited the vampire backroom, and quickened my pace through the vampire complex corridors.
After a few moments of wandering around through poorly-lit corridors of ornately carved grotesqueries, I began to hear a haunting melody of "Cry Little Sister". The song grew louder and increasingly clear as I went, seeking an exit.
Suddenly, I went around a corner and stopped cold. The hallway seemed to dead-end several yards ahead of me, ending in a pitch-black void. Standing there in the dark was the outline of two barely distinguishable shadowy figures with two pairs of bright blue eyes glowing in the dark, staring at me.
The song suddenly stopped playing, and I stood there, my feet frozen to the floor. The sudden silence put me on edge, and I began to mentally prepare myself for... anything. As I stood still, I could hear the two figures breathing steadily.
"Who's there!?" I quivered. No response. Just scary breathing.
Suddenly, the two shadowy silhouettes seemingly floated toward me, revealing themselves in the dim light of candles that were flickering along the beige walls.
It was sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning, pale-skinned and dressed in elegant black lacy semi-transparent dresses, looking sensuous and seductive. They smiled at me, bearing their long, sharp incisors, seemingly ready to bite into me.
To be honest, I wanted the sisters to bite me. We locked eyes, and I found their intensely piercing gaze strangely arousing.
"We've been dreaming of you," the sisters said in sultry unison.
"I've dreamt of you two, too," I said in an awkward, high-pitched moan. It was true, after all... I really had dreamt of the two recently, desiring them both. I could feel their telepathic poking around in my mind, and it felt like a mutual desire for intimacy was rapidly brewing in our collective minds.
"We've been waiting, and you DO desire us both," grinned Dakota. "How do we look?"
Feeling a bit awkward at this unexpected encounter, the only thing I could immediately think of to respond with was something in German.
"Sie sieht heute sehr blass aus!" I said as I side-eyed Elle.
"We both do," said Elle with a sparkling smile.
Dakota and Elle embraced me, and each slowly kissed me on either cheek. They picked me up, and we floated through an arched door at the end of the hall, disappearing into the shadowy blackness.
~~~~~~~~
Apparently having passed out, I awoke in a round bed of red velvet pillows and white silk sheets draped around Dakota and Elle who were asleep on either side of me.
Wow! What sort of steamy shenanigan happened last night! I had no recollection of anything since I had met the pair of sisters in the hall. Presently, I found myself in a Gothic stone boudoir chamber that was filled with an aroma of rosy pheromones.
There was a window on the far side of the room that was shuttered. Part of me wanted to stay with the sisters and be their lover for eternity. On the other hand, I also wanted to escape and get back to my reality.
I carefully opened the window, trying not to allow the sunlight get on the sleeping sisters. Just as I did so, I heard a muffled meowing come from somewhere below the window. When I looked out, I found that I was high in a tower in some unknown building. Far below me, I spotted the calico cat that had led me into this place. The calico was seated on a tin roof of a neighboring building along with four other cats. It was apparent they were having a meeting about something. I snapped a photo for my records.
I tried climbing down the building by shimmying down a water spout, but I fell onto the metal roof, and the meeting of cats scattered.
Once I managed to get my feet firmly on the ground, I had to get my bearings. Where was I? Nothing here looked familiar to me. I now found myself in a maze of narrow alleyways, populated with random cats.
The sun began to emerge from the clearing clouds above, and I immediately began to feel a sharp burning pain. Within seconds, I spontaneously combusted and I turned to ash.
Then I woke up.
THE END.
