Isolated on a hilltop and away from a crowd of strangers, I stood alone. The crowd contained people from my life that were either friends I had in my past, or relatives I had once known, or those who I had desired to be with and love but never had had the opportunity to do so.
The day was gloomy and dark, with ominous stormclouds in the distance. The crowd was mingling around an old Victorian era mansion that sat atop a rolling hill that had and eldritch forest surrounding it.
Someone from the crowd beckoned for me to come join them. As I approached the crowd, I realized they were celebrating Earth Day, as some of them were planting dead plants and trees in the dying yard.
Although it wasn't clear to me who had waved to me, I could see their hand beckoning again, but this time to come toward the mansion entrance. As I made my way through the crowd, no one acknowledged I was there, nor did anyone speak to me. I immediately grew aware that they were scared of me for some unknown reason, and air grew increasingly dry and silent.
I stepped into the mansion, and there were tables with birthday party supplies. On one of the tables was a note addressed to me specifically that instructions written on it to "prepare a party" for myself.
Although this didn't make sense to me, I spent hours by myself setting up tables and decorating the whole house with party balloons and birthday cakes. After all the work, I grew weary and laid down on a couch to take a nap, and passed out.
~~~~~~~~
As I began to stir, I could feel someone knudging me awake. The room was now full of people, and I could hear a hauntingly gothic version of Britney Spears' "Oops!... I Did It Again" playing in the background.
Standing over me was Britney Spears herself. A little groggy, I spaced out and stared at her. She smiled at me and took my hand and helped me get up from the couch. I was led through the croud where she introduced me to Taylor Swift, and various other pop music stars, most of which I had no idea who they were.
Something didn't feel right about the party. I looked closer, and realized most were wearing masks with smiles on them. The music was haunting and simply sounded off. It all felt like a masquerade. No one really wanted to talk to me, or simply ignored me alltogether.
I went into a long, dimly lit hallway so I could get away from the crowd. The hallway was empty and deathly silent, although I could simultaneously hear the party in a fuzzy background.
At the far end of the hallway, I could see a large mirror with a black, ornate oak frame. I could feel a dark presence emitting from it, and in my mind, I could hear a deep, crackling voice calling to me.
As if in a trance, I walked over to it. I stood there, looking at my reflection. My reflection was disturblingly off and wrong, and I felt deeply judged.
"END IT ALL!" the voice angrily screamed at me.
Suddenly and in the blink of an eye, the mirror shattered into broken fragments, and a giant glass shard pierced my heart, spraying blood all over the hall, and I faded into a black abyss.
~~~~~~~~
In a daze, I awoke in front of the broken mirror. There were dried blood stains on the walls and floor. I got up, and realized there was no glass shard in my heart.
It was deathly silent, and I couldn't hear a sound, apart from the occasional creak and groan of the old Victorian mansion.
I went back into the rooms, and found no one there. The place was now empty, and there were blood splatters everywhere. The party was dead, with no signs of life. I was utterly alone in a massacred birthday party.
There no bodies anywhere. Just random blood stains. Where had everyone gone? What had happened?
Suddenly, I could see strange eyes of evil intent staring at me from the walls. It was time for me to leave.
I stepped outside, and a great wind blew me away, and I was lost into the void of a dark and stormy whirlwind.
Then I woke up. THE END.
